Topics include the prehistoric era and the origins of human civilization; civilizations of the ancient Near East; early civilizations of Africa and the Americas; East Asian culture and civilization; Indian (South Asian) culture and civilization; Greek and Roman civilization; early civilizations of Southeast Asia; Islamic civilization; the Byzantine empire and medieval Europe.
